Coursework Requirements

The coursework components of our programmes provide students with basic knowledge of their fields and offer tools to prepare them for writing the thesis. All MPhil and four-year PhD students* are required to satisfactorily complete compulsory courses of the Graduate School as well as the compulsory and required elective courses offered by their respective School and/or other departments as specified below:

*Three-year PhD students of the School of Business of the 2015-16 intake and thereafter are required to complete the same coursework requirements as four-year PhD students of the School.


By the end of the probationary period, students should have passed all Graduate School compulsory courses and at least 50% of the Faculty/School courses required. Students are, however, advised to complete all the courses during the probationary period so that they can concentrate on their research and thesis writing in the remaining part of their period of study. In any case, the requisite coursework requirements must be fulfilled before submission of thesis.
