制度史的研究無疑應以定性分析為基礎，但如果要對多維的制度進行刻劃乃至跨時空的比較、要對制度的變遷進行系統地解釋、要對制度的績效進行評估等等，均有借助量化方法的必要。當然，要對形式上為定性且難以直接比較的制度進行量化分析，乃是具有挑戰性的工作 。醉心鑽研清代法律制度的彭凱翔教授近年主力嘗試對清代的典章制度、刑科題本、行規等不同形態的史料進行定性與定量分析。

在今期的量化歷史網上講座，彭凱翔教授將探討如何通過量化的分析來揭示清代立法活動的變遷、各部門法律的相互關係及其在國家治理上的意味、正式制度與非正式制度的關係等等。
