Publishing Date: 26/10/2018 (Last Update: 26/10/2018)
The Master of Business Administration (International) Programme (IMBA), jointly offered by Faculty of Business and Economics, The University of Hong Kong and School of Management of Fudan University, celebrated its 20th anniversary under the theme of “The Tale of Two Cities” at Shanghai Tower on 21 October 2018.
The IMBA programme was the Faculty’s first educational venture outside Hong Kong, which launched in 1998. It was also among the first batch of joint programmes approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.
“The Programme plays an important role in facilitating China’s integration into the world economy: it has successfully nurtured over 4,700 business talents with international perspectives, met the growing demand of professionals while China’s undergoing economics reform, and set up a new model of MBA education in China. In view of this, the programme’ s establishment 20 years ago was truly epoch-making,” HKU Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang remarked at the celebration ceremony.
To ride on the milestone of 20th anniversary, the programme curriculum has undertaken a renewal to keep up with the times. An IMBA 2.0 was officially launched with a kick off ceremony officiated by Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics Professor Hongbin Cai and Dean of the School of Management of Fudan University Professor Xiongwen Lu.
Cutting-edge topics such as FinTech, data analytics and digital marketing have been incorporated into the programme to keep students abreast of latest industry developments and market trends; international study tours will be organised to broaden students’ horizons; and alumni services will be strengthened.
Another forward-looking session of the celebration ceremony was a speech on “Industrial Convergence across the Bay Areas and the Future Development of Hong Kong & Shanghai” delivered by Group Chairman and CEO of Nan Fung Group Mr. Antony Leung, followed by a roundtable discussion on the same topic, attended by 4 renowned business school deans and an IMBA alumnus. Both sessions inspired audiences to examine the opportunities and challenges facing Hong Kong and Shanghai.
